Jebłem takiego maila. Bije ich ich własnymi zaklęciami (⌐ ͡■ ͜ʖ ͡■)
Dear European Movement Europe,
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding your recent Facebook post about the future design of the euro banknotes.
In your post, you refer to Marie Skłodowska-Curie simply as "Marie Curie." While this may appear to be a minor detail, it carries significant historical and symbolic implications.
Marie Skłodowska consistently valued and preserved her Polish surname throughout her life. She did not abandon it after marriage. Referring to her only by her husband's surname erases an essential part of her identity and legacy.
More importantly, this practice has a distinctly sexist dimension. Throughout history, many accomplished women have had their own identities overshadowed by those of their husbands. In the case of Marie Skłodowska, reducing her to "Marie Curie" unintentionally reinforces that historical pattern by emphasizing her husband's surname while omitting her own.
Considering that your organization promotes European values such as equality, diversity, and respect for cultural heritage, I find it deeply disappointing that one of Europe's greatest scientists is presented in a way that diminishes her own identity.
I respectfully ask that you update the post to refer to her as Marie Skłodowska-Curie, or at the very least acknowledge why using only "Marie Curie" is historically incomplete and insensitive to her expressed attachment to her Polish heritage.
Historical figures deserve to be remembered as they wished to be remembered, especially when discussing the values and identity of Europe.
I hope you will consider correcting the post.
