None of the major shopping malls in Bydgoszcz are Polish-owned. We take a look at where their owners come from

In May, Comfy Park, a new shopping centre in the Glinki district of Bydgoszcz, celebrated its grand opening. The launch attracted significant media attention, but despite the fanfare, the project is not backed by Polish capital. Instead, the centre is owned by Newgate Investment, a London-based investment fund. Comfy Park is far from an exception—every major shopping mall in Bydgoszcz is controlled by foreign capital.

Galeria Pomorska is owned by the British real estate investment company Resolution Property, which benefits from the mall’s operations. The property itself is managed on the owner’s behalf by Sierra Balmain, a company backed by British and Portuguese capital.

The city’s largest shopping centre, Zielone Arkady, is also foreign-owned. It belongs to CE Projektmanagement International GmbH, a Hamburg-based company representing German capital. The firm owns hundreds of similar retail properties, primarily in Germany, but also across Hungary, Italy, Turkey and Qatar. In Poland, its portfolio includes eight shopping centres, among them Galeria Bałtycka in Gdańsk, Galeria Krakowska in Kraków and Avenida Poznań.

Earlier this year, Focus Mall was acquired by a new owner, the Cyprus-based investment fund COLETRADE LTD. The fund also owns Galeria Dominikańska in Wrocław and CH Biała in Białystok. Its corporate headquarters are located in Nicosia.

The oldest shopping centre in Bydgoszcz—although considerably smaller than the others-is Centrum Handlowe Rondo, located at Grunwaldzkie Roundabout. The property is owned by the Czech company Star Capital Finance SCF.
